Registration Policy
Advanced registration: Please call 419-626-1641 or 1-800-589-2286 to register in advance for all classes. Registrations will be accepted by phone up to 4 PM the day of the class unless the class is full. Because our classes are popular and fill quickly, we recommend registering as early as possible.
Payment Options: Course fees may be paid in advance, at the class, or if your company has established an account with us, we will bill your company after the class has been taken. If we are billing your company, payment does not have to be received before the class.
Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card. Please make checks out to: American Red Cross, 300 Central Ave. Sandusky, OH 44870. Please include with your payment the name of the student and the date, time and type of class for which you are registering.
Transfers and Cancellations: If you are unable to attend a class you have registered for, please call us as soon as possible to transfer to another class or to receive a refund. A service fee of $10 may be charged if the transfer or cancellation is not within 24 hours of the class date.
Locations: Sandusky classes are at the American Red Cross, 300 Central Ave. Sandusky (See Map page listed on our Home page) Norwalk classes are held at the Huron County Jobs and Family Services (HCJFS) in Norwalk at at 185 Shady Ln. Drive, Norwalk
IMPORTANT: Flu Precautions during Red Cross Training:
To help minimize the risk of flu transmission, follow basic health precautions and limit your potential exposure to the flu. If you are ill, or suspect you have been exposed to the flu, please stay home. Please call the Firelands Chapter to reschedule for another time! There will not be a transfer or cancellation fee if you are sick.
During your Red Cross training we will attempt to reduce the spread of the flu by implementing the following procedures:
* All participants will receive gloves to be worn when practicing skills on the manikins.
* Each participant will practice on their own manikin, if manikins must be shared, they will be sanitized between each participant and you will receive a disposable face shield.
* A break will be given after the skill sessions to allow for hand washing.
* Hand sanitizer and tissues will be available in each classroom for participants to use.

SUPER WEDNESDAYS!
STANDARD FIRST AID, Adult CPR/AED, &
BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS
Get it all in one day! An OSHA-recognized course that teaches Adult CPR, use of an AED, and care for adult choking victims. Students also learn how to respond to emergencies, First Aid basics such as bleeding, poisoning, burns, fractures, and Bloodborne Pathogens: preventing disease transmission.
Fee: $50 for all three, $45 for CPR & First Aid without Bloodborne Pathogens, $35 for Adult CPR/AED only, $25 for just FA, $15 for just Bloodborne Pathogens.

BLOOD BORNE PATHOGENS
Teaches how to avoid contact with bloodborne pathogens and clean up body fluid spills..
Meets OSHA standards for annual training on blood borne pathogens.
Fee: $5 on Super Wednesdays with CPR/FA class, $15 if taken alone.

SPORT SAFETY TRAINING
Meets Ohio Department of Education requirements for coaches and pupil activity supervisors certification. Full class includes Adult & Child CPR and Sport First Aid and Safety. CPR portion must be renewed every year. Sport First Aid and Safety must be renewed every three years. Optional Pocket mask: $10

CPR FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER
New 2-year certification for Health Care and Rescue Workers!
A course designed for rescue personnel, lifeguards, nurses and other health workers. This course teaches Community CPR skills as well as 2-person CPR, the use of a pocket mask, modified airway techniques, bag-valve mask, and other skilled procedures. Required for nurses, athletic trainers, rescue personnel, lifeguards, and other health care workers. New 2-year certification for Healthcare and Rescue workers! Lifeguards will still receive a 1-year certificate. Be sure to bring your pocket mask if you have one or masks are available for purchase.
Fee: $50 full course with book, Optional Pocket Mask: $10

CPR CHALLENGES
CPR challenges are for those students that have been taking CPR annually for years and would like to "test-out" of CPR. At a CPR Challenge you first take the written test, if you pass, you then demonstrate all the CPR skills you learn in class. If you can pass the test and demonstrate the skills, you get your certificate!
Fees: Adult CPR/AED: $20, Adult/Infant/Child CPR/AED: $25, Infant/Child CPR: $25,
Ad CPR/AED & SFA: $25, A/I/C CPR & Pediatric FA: $30, First Aid with out CPR: $20

DAYCARE COURSES
ADULT, CHILD and INFANT CPR/AED
Teaches Adult CPR/AED and CPR for children under age 12, and infant CPR, choking care and prevention of childhood injuries. Great for parents, grandparents, and babysitters. Meets Ohio Department of Human Services requirements for daycare employees working with children under 8.

There are no Infant & Child CPR classes scheduled.
We feel it is more important and valuable to train all participants in Adult, Infant and Child CPR. Please see the A/I/C CPR schedule above!

Adult & PEDIATRIC FIRST AID
Pediatric First Aid: Meets Ohio Department of Human Services requirements for daycare employees working with children. COMMUNICABLE DISEASE TRAINING (CDT)
(Formerly COMMON CHILDHOOD ILLNESSES)
The state of Ohio has revised this course in July 2009. This course teaches about communicable diseases and other common illnesses found in children. If you have never taken this course before, or if your certificate has expired, you MUST take the 6-hour course. Meets Ohio Department of Jobs & Family Services requirements for Communicable Disease training for daycare workers.

BABYSITTERS TRAINING
Teaches the child age 11 or older how to be a responsible babysitter and how to prevent and handle emergencies while caring for infants and children. Covers: feeding, diapering, dressing, playing, and supervising infants and children. Also, great for kids who will be home alone or in charge of siblings! (Age 11 is a recommendation, but not a requirement. If a child is nearly 11 and the parent feels they are old enough to be a responsible sitter, they are permitted to attend the class.) Fee: $35

Pet First Aid

Teaches pet owners how to help their beloved pet in an emergency.
Includes animal CPR and First Aid.

AMERICAN RED CROSS INSTRUCTOR COURSE
Become a certified American Red Cross Instructor! Volunteer to teach community classes for the Firelands Chapter. Or help your company to save money on their training needs. Or both! This class teaches the Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT), and how to teach First Aid and CPR for Adults, Infants and Children, also AEDs, Bloodborne Pathogens, and more! Must have a current Adult CPR certificate. New! Become a CPR for the Professional Rescuer Instructor at the same time!
Fee: $100 ($125 for out of Chapter students)

LIFEGUARD TRAINING
Become a lifeguard: a fun summer job or the beginning of a life-long career. Great also for youth leaders!
A course for participants age 15 and older, teaches the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and first aid training includes new Shallow Water Lifeguard for Waterparks! Prerequisite testing in the water is required.

LIFEGUARD MANAGEMENT
New Course! Lifeguard Management is designed to teach aquatic managers and lifeguard supervisors how to effectively manage lifeguards and keep patrons, lifeguards, and facilities safe. The course includes information on the selection and training of lifeguards, management topics, records and report templates, and nearly 100 in-service training outlines! You do not need to be a lifeguard to take this course.
Fee: $55
We do not have any Lifeguard Management classes at this time but we can set one up for groups of 6 or more.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR
Learn to teach American Red Cross swim lessons! Great way to earn extra money or your first step toward a career as an Aquatics Director! Must be 16 years old by last class date. Proof of age may be required.

AQUAFITNESS
Use the natural resistance of water to get into shape! Enjoy the camaraderie of new friends and old while getting your exercise. Great for all ages! Classes run from September to Memorial Day. Call for more information: 419-626-1641.

Thank you for using American Red Cross training. Your course fees help twice - once with valuable skills that may save a life, and twice, should a disaster such as a family fire or tornado strike or a family member has life saving surgery. Cost recovery of course fees frees up chapter resources for disaster relief and blood services to the residents of both Erie and Huron Counties.
